In sixth grade, my students begin learning to write using a set of steps. As they become more proficient in writing, they begin to learn to built on their vocabulary. My students advance in their writing, by adding WOW words to their writing. WOW words, are words that aren't tired. A tired word would be "fun". Students would use a dictionary and thesaurus to look up the word such as, "exhilarating, amazing, extravagant," to substitute the tired word "fun". Nothing is more frustrating then when my students are using either a dictionary or thesaurus, and they cannot find the words they need because the literature we have in the classroom is so outdated. When students work on a District Writing Benchmark, they aren't allowed to use technology, and for that reason these tools are crucial to my student growth, and learning. My students will never forgot your generosity. We will think of you when we see a giant increase in our writing district scores. Thank you in advance!
