Independent reading can be intimidating and misunderstood. At this stage, my students pick books solely for vibrant illustrations. The goal is to get them not only reading the words, but comprehending the meaning of those words. Having a classroom library filled with "Just Right" books will help them gain confidence as a reader as well as motivate them to further their reading skills. Some of my students are A level, so these books will encourage them to move to the next level. For those not quite there, these books will challenge them to practice their reading skills and build vocabulary to comprehend the story. With this library, students will be excited to show me how well they can read and retell the story!
