I am a fifth grade teacher in a classroom with a diverse population. I teach mainly African American and Hispanic students. They are children of working class parents and they struggle to stay focused on the demands and pressures of school life. At home, they watch a lot of TV and play video games too much! Their parents tend to be tired and many do not receive help with homework and they are they are not pushed educationally. It makes our job tough as teachers because we want to instill a value of education. The best we can do is give them a quality education while they are here at school.
