In my self-contained special education classroom, my students learn in many different ways. Not to mention, students with special needs learn far differently from their general education counterparts do. Recognizing these differences, championing them and responding to them accordingly will only develop their growth exponentially. My students particularly love the ability to choose various spots around the room during independent reading and writing time. My goal is to make these options as varied - and comfortable - as possible. Please help me provide these flexible seating options that have been proven to motivate and support students in their learning: bean bag chairs, pillows and yoga/exercise balls. Fostering independence and choice among my 12 learners is incredibly important for their cognitive and social development. Not to mention, allowing them the ability to be as comfortable as possible during these important learning situations each day will only foster enthusiasm within them to continue to learn and grow.
