The 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in our Advanced Language Arts class must not only be excellent writers, readers and thinkers; they must also be excellent speakers and debaters. Our program requires them to complete over fifteen public speaking, reading and debate projects over their three years in the program. This doesn't even count the number of competitive tournaments they take part in to demonstrate how well they've honed their skills. To us, communication in written form isn't enough to make you an outstanding student. We believe that you need to be able to express yourself just as capably in an oral fashion as you do on paper or a computer screen. Our students master everything from telling stories to children, to the art of telling jokes, to researching, writing and delivering a persuasive speech in a 24 hour period - twice in a week's period. This - and so much more - make our students so very capable.
