Students who recieve high quality materials are often more invested in the projects and this year I am trying to start an arts program from scratch. My students will use the materials in this project to design and build a three dimensional scale diorama that highlights an issue that is important to them. This is their final project for the class. This project will not only have students using a variety of artistic and design skills, but also mathematical skills, research skills, problem solving and writing skills to fulfill their project requirements as they present to actual designers and the school. In the past, I have had students tackle incredible topics such as bullying, hunger, racial profiling, and animal abuse in similar projects. The materials I chose below all have a specific purpose in the drafting and building stages of this project. The paper products will allow students to draft scale drawings of their proposed design. I want students to be able to choose the scope and media of their drafts which is why I am requesting many types of paper. Once students have gotten feedback in the review process and made necessary revisions, they will be building the three dimensional dioramas. I already have a plan to team up with some communtiy groups to get boxes and cardboard, but need materials for students to cover the cardboard and build scaled the interior aspects such as trees, people cutouts and more. The more variety of products and adhesives I can provide, the more the students will be able to problem solve in their materials. My goal is for students to build and paint the dioramas from scratch with nothing pre-bought so they can problem solve and apply more creative approaches!
