In my classroom, I try to incorporate activities that allow students to be creative in connecting with material. Students regularly create posters, illustrations, diagrams, and complete other assignments to bring potentially two dimensional information to life. Studies have shown that color coding notes and other information has a triggering effect for memory. In the past I have used these materials to have students diagram the parts of an analytical essay, create mock propaganda posters, doodle the ideas presented in a podcast, or simply take notes. These materials, while relatively simple, can help students build skills of organization, note-taking, and creativity. The markers and pens selected are a large part of completing those assignments, but become costly over time. I want to be able to offer my kids even more opportunities to enhance these skills each and every class.
