My students will use the supplies requested to further enhance what they are reading and learning about. Students can turn what they have read about into concrete knowledge with hands on activities. Imagine putting together a 3D paper model of DNA and seeing the Double Helix twist. While reading about this basic building block of life may not make sense until you put your hands on it. Students also have a desire to feel like they are equal to everyone in the classroom even if mom and/or dad had to make the decision between basic living items and school supplies. Help me ensure that I will always have supplies for students as I start my first year teaching Biology.
