As students become independent problem solvers, it is my goal to facilitate a math class that promotes meaningful discourse as we work through complex math problems. Problem solving in the real world takes practice, revisions, conversations, critiques, and finally consensus. It is through the various tools and materials I am requesting that my middle school math students will become active mathematicians during class. Student will work in small groups, using their team tubs filled with various mathematical tools, to solve real world math problems. In addition, students will have the chance to work at various stations throughout the classroom using the white board easels and chart paper to complete math tasks as they are creating solutions through meaningful math dialogue and discourse.
