My students work diligently on their reading and writing every day. In order to encourage a positive attitude towards reading, students can earn the right to spend their silent reading time in the Reading Corner. Students will be able to read comfortably on cushions and bean bag chairs in an environment that allows them more freedom than their desks. When asked what would make reading more enjoyable, my students responded that they would like to spread out and leave their desks. In order to fulfill this desire, we brainstormed what this could look like. Together we came up with the idea of a carpeted reading area with pillows and seating. We also want a bookshelf in order to arrange our books by reading level. One of our classroom jobs is the Librarian. The Librarian for the week will be responsible for organizing the books on their shelves and keeping the reading corner tidy.
