This is just basic items needed to have a great learning environment. We entered a classroom with little to no furniture and being a first year teacher I have little funds to furnish the class to provide a teaching experience for my Special Ed students. The teacher easel is so fundamental during circle time because it is interactive for students with learning disabilities, autistic and adhd students to learn in a visual way. Right now I use easel paper which can become expensive. Flexible seating is also important because it provides my students an outlet to move without being to distractive and allows them to continue to learn. Kids of all ages need music that will allow fun and effective movement therefore I am purchasing Dr. Jean cd’s. Her songs are catchy and hopefully get my quieter and reserved students to open up and have fun. Games and puzzles that reinforce subjects being taught such as sight words or phonemic awareness is so important for special needs students who rely on a lot of visual learning to process information. The storage cart would benefit my special needs students to have access to art materials by organizing and labeling using the colors. Whether it be language and literacy games to entice learning and memory retention or wobble chairs to provide them an outlet to release anxiety a classroom needs materials and furniture to make it a better learning environment especially kids with special needs. I want them to come to school going to a class that looks the same as their peers.
