By reading Fish in a Tree as a whole class read aloud, my students will learn to enjoy reading a wide variety of books, learn to take the perspective of their peers, and learn the benefit of standing up for yourself and your friends by showing integrity. Ali and the other characters in this book are ones that my 5th grade students can easily relate to. Fish in a tree teaches valuable life lessons and presents them in a way that young readers find highly engaging. Giving students thought provoking reading material helps keep them engaged in their reading and also provides them with exemplar writing pieces and they begin crafting their own literary pieces.
