I am seeking materials to help teachers and school staff make calming caddies for each classroom or space within our elementary school. These caddies will be available to all students. It is our role as educators to provide the tools for all students to be able to feel safe and comfortable at school. This means teaching students about what it means to calm down and how to facilitate this process through some calming activities. These are life-long skills that students can carry with them on their educational pathway. Just as we teach academic subjects in school, school is also a place where children engage in social-emotional learning opportunities that help them to better focus, self-regulate and problem-solve. The items in the caddy were all selected to provide a variety of tools and experiences for all students. The glitter jar will be made with the Voss water bottles, corn syrup and glitter and facilitate a sense of calm as the student observes the glitter slowly settling to the bottle of the jar. A timer is included so that students will be able to select either 3, 4 or 5 minutes needed to use the caddy. Instructions will be provided to teachers that they can use to teach their students about the caddies.
