I am walking into a new space in a new school. It has been my dream to work in an ELL community and the opportunity is here! The classroom rug is the hub of social interaction and memorable moments. My classroom is sparse, with little more than tables and chairs. I would love to brighten the space up and give the students a comfy alternative to sitting at their seats. Some of the most rewarding learning I have been part of has been sitting with groups of students on the rug, exploring stories, creating STEM projects, and doing silly dances in a community space. We will also be using the rug to participate in community building restorative circles. This practice aligns with mindfulness, social emotional learning, and community building.
