I teach a group of very energetic first graders!!! These flexible seating options will allow my students to move freely around the classroom while they are learning. Research is proving that students should not be required to sit in a traditional classroom setting, such as a desk and chair, or have to sit in rows of desks and assigned seats. When introducing my students to flexible seating, I will encourage them to try out each spot within the first week. I will stress the importance of self awareness. The students will be responsible for finding what feels best for them and what kind of seating will make them the best learner they can be. My students will learn how to collaborate with each other. They will learn how to problem solve and take a leadership role in their learning. They will also learn how to self regulate their behavior. The flexible classroom set up will allow for students to be successful through a continuous stimulation of being able to move freely while they work. The comfy couch will be used in the reading nook. The students will be able to move freely to that area while they are reading for enjoyment. The comfy floor seats, wobble chairs, beanbags, and the soft seats will be used while the students are working on activities. These items will make a big difference in the way they learn because they will be taking ownership in their learning. These seating options will be spread out all over the room so students won't be sitting so close. They will be able to focus and work hard on the task at hand.
