As a student, some of my most fond and uplifting memories were those of my music class. I wish to bring this to my students who have never had the chance to experience the medicine I took daily as a child to help reduce stress and build up my self-confidence and self-efficacy: music. My students are part of a low-income community and music can help them overcome some of their daily ordeals. I went through a traumatic experience when I was around their age and music helped me heal. The Boom Whackers I hope to receive will introduce students to music through rhythm. The students will each have a boom whacker and work together to read music and compose songs. These instruments cannot be used by just one person which will allow the students to build community. The Boom Whackers also related to the math we are doing in 3rd grade so it will provide students with a kinesthetic way to learn. Overall the Book make a difference in my students' school lives by improving their self-confidence and Math skills. They will experience the fun it is to be in a musical community.
