Students sometimes need a safe spot to go when they are stressed, tired or need to solve a conflict with a peer, without disturbing the classroom. The bean bags will provide a place for them to sit down and relax for a few minutes or talk to a peer about a problem they're having. The bean bags will be placed in the back of the classroom to provide 1-2 students a place to relax and talk, practicing relaxation techniques and conflict-resolution skills learned in the classroom. The safe zone helps to decrease students' discipline issues, loss of learning time and increase well-being and academic success.
