During class, many of my students need extra space to move around when sitting in their regular classroom chair, or on the carpet. This often bothers those around them and makes the student feel self-conscious about the way they are acting. Learning cannot occur unless a child feels comfortable and accepted in a classroom. Whether we are on the carpet, or at our seats my hope is to give these children access to these ball chairs so that they can contain this usually uncontrolled energy. Students sit, feet flat on the the ground and use their calves and thighs to lightly bounce up and down. Having their body occupied, their mind can concentrate on the task at hand.
