This year I am focusing on Number Talks to help increase my student's understanding in math process and how numbers work. Part of a Number Talk is students demonstrating their thought process and work to share with the students in the class. We try to utilize the white board for that, which is difficult to read and erase.
The current white board that is available for the students is an old white shower board that was purchased at least 20 years ago. It has many scratches and writing that won't erase off. It is not conducive to what my students need to exhibit, share and discuss their math thinking with their classmates.
Our school is a small rural school and we don't have access to funding for updating old and outdated classroom materials. My students use small lap sized white boards for sharing their thoughts and ideas; this is an ineffective method and requires extra time to share their ideas. The students have been forced to share only in small groups, and this is ineffective for the students learning. Helping fund this project will help the students and their school be updated to the 21st Century.
