Students learn best when they have choices and are able to move around the room as needed. They need the ability to choose where they work and with whom they work and to change their position when needed. Traditional desks can make a student territorial or possessive, while flexible seating will encourage children to share and take turns. Flexible seating also allows students to bounce, lean, twist, kick, fidget, wobble, roll, stand, kneel, and sit to best fit their needs. Students will be more comfortable, calm and focused while stimulating their sense of touch. Flexible seating encourages positive behavior and allows the students to take ownership of tasks. The furniture and materials requested will help the students while they are in their learning centers. They will be seated more comfortably and they will be more organized with the storage caddies. The carpets will also allow students to sit in various spots around the classroom.
