A listening center in the kindergarten classroom has many benefits. A listening center will allow my students to listen to books that may be above their reading level and help to expose my students to more sophisticated vocabulary and sentence structure. Audiobooks will allow my students to hear explicit sounds of letters and letter patterns that form words, as well as help my students engage in text and gain exposure to more words, ultimately improving vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. My students will have the opportunity to independently listen to a book during our center time with little assistance from the teacher. Currently, my students are able to look at books but are not able to read them yet and lose interest quickly.
