An emphasis on reading is something that shouldn't happen solely within the ELA classroom. As a math teacher of indigenous students on the Tohono O'odham Nation, I am a firm believer that there should be an emphasis on reading for pleasure in all classrooms. Within my own classroom I have built a small library, but I cannot supply my students with enough books for the rate at which they are reading. Working with indigenous students, it is so important that they are exposed to indigenous authors and relevant topics. It is my hope to provide my students with a diverse library within my mathematics classroom that will encourage them to read. These books will be added to the classroom library for all students to enjoy, just for the pleasure of reading.
