I currently work with children with communication impairments between the ages of 3-9. The ability to speak clearly, understand and express language, interact socially and understand the purpose of communication are all critical to academic success. The students I serve students are bright and funny and eager to explore the world but have a variety of deficits ranging from speech sound errors to children so significantly impaired they are unable to communicate their basic wants and needs. Every child deserves a voice. Many of my children have multiple layers to their disabilities but one thing they all have in common is their desire to be understood and to understand. My students strive to fit in academically and socially through the acquisition of better communication skills.
