STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math), an up and coming concept in the world of education and one that we most often overlook (specifically in the early childhood setting) simply because it's already apart of so much of what we do in our classrooms! My goal this year and every year after is to build my STEAM curriculum, and bring as many educational opportunities to my preschoolers with special needs as possible and that includes literature, and materials. I want to make this a reality BECAUSE I believe that they can do anything they put their minds to. Something as simple as exploring our school yard armed with compasses tiny magnifying glasses, to examining a leaf through an actual microscope would bring them so much joy and add to their seemingly limitless love for learning. My students are a fantastic group of curious, intelligent, and now science-loving 3-5 year olds. They also all have a diagnosis of autism, which makes them even more special! Their fervent interest in my STEAM activities further solidifies my desire to give them as many opportunities and tools to explore our natural world as possible.
