My goal is to build a classroom that is rich in conversation, collaboration, and community. From a morning message that greets my students as they walk in the door, to shared readings, vocabulary words, and inspirational quotes, anchor charts and markers will allow all of my students to engage equally with new academic content. My students will be able to come up and share their ideas, discover new information, and add on or ask questions of their classmates. Over time, they will be able to pass the pen to one another and take charge of their own independent learning. This project will have a lasting impact on my students' identities as learners. When they are able to read, write, and share their own ideas, they will actively grow into their own scholarly identities. With this easel, I will be able to develop lessons that are engaging and relevant to my students. The materials and curriculum will become a part of our shared space, in which each child can construct his/her own knowledge through actively participating and creating new meanings.
