I began this project because I would like to assign the book Hidden Figures for my students to read this semester; however, I am worried about the ability of some of my students to purchase the book. The book is vital to women in mathematics. Hidden Figures models that math is not boring, not hard and can be interesting, cool and totally awesome. I began to think...why should classroom libraries be limited to English classrooms? I would like to provide my students with books to enhance their knowledge about math and mathematicians and maybe spark some curiosity in their brain about math they never knew they had. The books I have selected for the project will help my students see that mathematics can offer a rewarding, meaningful career in which they could construct the world of the future. In the society of the 21st century math and science skills will make my students more employable at higher wage careers.
