Middle school, especially 8th-grade, is a time when many once avid readers turn their backs to books in favor of video games or social media. In my Language Arts classroom, I aspire to keep my students' love for reading alive and hopefully create a new interest in reading for those students who "hate to read." Please help me to cultivate a love for reading for my 8th-grade students by donating to my reading escape classroom library! Over the last 5 years, I have purchased an impressive collection of teen reading material. These novels are currently crammed into high cabinets (pictured above) that are not very enticing or convenient for my students. My project includes accessible cube organizer bookshelves, a Samsung tablet for quick and easy book checkouts and returns (this can also be used as an e-reader), two comfortable reading chairs, and posters. I want to provide my students with an exceptional selection of novels, a reliable and easy method of checking them out, and a cozy reading nook so they can have a relaxing place to escape in their books!
