High school students are in school for seven hours a day. Of those seven hours, only twenty-one minutes are spent in passing periods where students can freely move about. The remaining three hundred and ninety-nine minutes are spent sitting, restrictive sitting, in the same style of desk just in various locations. My classroom seating needs to be flexible for a large group, where we can still have room to move about and then be rearranged the next hour to adjust for a much smaller class. The smaller class sizes at my school allow for a lot of flexibility and creativity; however, when one class has a larger count of twenty-three and the next largest is thirteen, the need to accommodate the larger group makes the classroom congested for the smaller ones. Thus, the flexibility and ease of creativity are repressed. Utilizing the Stand-Up Desks, Ball Chairs, and Wobble Stools will start my classroom off on the right track to bring the flexibility back into the classroom. Creating a combination of seating arrangements that can seamlessly accommodate various student needs and classroom counts is the ultimate goal.
