My students represent a community that is often times unheard and forgotten about. The need to prepare students to be advocates for their neighborhoods and to use their voices to empower their communities is just as important today as it has always been. In my reading classroom, students will debate and speak on topics throughout the course that focus on social and moral issues of today. With these two lecterns and folders, my classroom can transform into a presidential debate, a town hall meeting, a courtroom and more. We can begin to prepare students now to gain confidence in their public speaking and their ability to debate topics that we read about in our classroom. This support will help our goal of creating the Leaders of Tomorrow.
