Students in the Franklin Middle School ELL program come from a variety of backgrounds but all of my students benefit from the support and variety of instructional input to help them succeed. Almost all of my students come from families that are newcomers to the USA and have lower education levels. My students struggle to see themselves as having the potential to achieve at high levels. My students are bright and motivated but sometimes feel like they have to get ELL help because they are struggling in the classroom. I like to encourage my students to pick topics that interest them and find creative ways to work on the skills they need for academic success and to be career ready. I am not just teaching them English language grammar and content, I am helping them develop real life social skills and culture as well.
