Scholars spend the majority of the day in the classrooms sitting while instruction occurs. As a social worker, I see my many scholars who struggle to remain still and upright while learning, ultimately causing the scholar to be distracted during instruction. Scholars that are empowered to choose seating preferences that meet their individual needs are able to stay more focused and engaged. Some scholars work best in a wobble core chair, or a bean bag, or a floor mat, or a traditional desk and chair. Every scholar learns differently, and each scholar should be empowered to chose the flexible seating that provides them with the best learning. Currently, my guidance and small group classroom is supplied with tables and a few chairs. I would to transform the climate of the room by making it an environment where scholars are safe to wiggle while they learn.
