The students in our school are high needs, high poverty and range in levels from special education, ELL-dual-language students, regular education and from 4K-5th grade. We are in our first year of a new literacy adoption with Reader's and Writer's Workshop model. In order for students to excel with writing linked to the reading I would like to teach them to use skills to color code for writing improvement. The students will utilize certain color coding practices in the improvement of writing and will be excited with the improved practices and the integration of tools. In addition, I would like to have students work toward producing final products and will provide an incentive for quality printing in writing. Engaging practices to support writing workshop aligned to our reading program will be most effective to support increased achievement gains for all students. I am eager to teach the new coding skills and foster a culture of reading and writing for the classrooms in our school in which I coach, model, and lead others toward successful integration of literacy practices. The students will be utilizing the post it notes to make annotated notes in their lesson writing and to flag areas in the reading in which they have questions, want to share with others, or to collect evidence from the text. The flags will provide markers for reading texts to mark share areas in a text. The pens will be the tool of preference to get kids writing instead of continually erasing and correcting which leads to students having minimal evidence of completed work. The highlighters are utilized in the editing process for students to find evidence of either "text supporting statements," punctuation, grammar to address or correct, or other editing tasks in writing with ink and paper to produce final products.
