At the kindergarten level, having a rug with 30 colored squares offers individual security and comfort. Children who feel safe reach out, take chances, and feel their needs are being cared for. My 27 kindergarten students would love a comfortable rug, which is used daily for morning meeting, reading, math, and other activities. Participation and collaboration usually begin at this spot too. So much time is spent at this important area of my room. It is truly a special place! My current rug looks more like a rag now. It is becoming unsafe. I would truly be happy not to have to use "duck tape" this year to secure the edges, and to create individual spaces for my students. I know having a safe, inviting area to learn will help my students feel special as they grow and explore!
