The use of an easel will be a daily activity in my classroom, especially for math and reading. Students who need to be re-taught, need to be pulled to the carpet for small group reteaching. The easel provides a second learning space, separate from the rest of the class, so small groups can have an area to focus on their learning. It is a problem that we currently do not have a secondary learning space because our classroom faces our only two whiteboards. When students have demonstrated their understanding, they are able to move onto a math or reading activity at their desk, instead of being able to move to a different area. This is distracting for students for all students because those who are not in small group, are not able to work in voice level appropriate for their assignment, and those who need small group instruction, are not able to focus on their learning. By having a easel, we would have two different learning areas, so all students can focus on their learning!
