Have you ever seen a mechanic fix a car without any tools? Or a surgeon perform surgery without any surgical instruments. This is what it is like to try to teach math concepts without tools for scholars to use to visually show the concepts. It is important to show problems as concretely as possible to help children retain what they learned and to enjoy the process of problem solving. These tools will turn abstract ideas into concrete knowledge. The base 10 blocks help scholars understand how to construct and deconstruct a number. This will make learning addition and subtraction easier. Our scholars have to learn to use money and what better way to do that than to have money they can use to have a play store and to practice making change and adding different money amounts. Fractions, parts, and whole amounts become easy when scholars can use the fraction pieces to put the different amount together. Lastly, nobody likes to just complete worksheets to practice concepts;the center pack gives the children a chance to practice concepts in lots of different, fun and engaging ways. No more worksheet practice! Your donations will benefit all 82 second grade scholars at our school. It will make math fun and engaging. Your donation will help us to foster a love of math and ensure the scholars will continue to successful academically and in the real world.
