There is a plethora of research that shows if a student is not reading on grade level by the end of second grade, there is a great chance that students may never catch up to their peers. As a second grade teacher, I have the responsibility to get my students from non-readers to avid readers. These books are on grade level, and below grade level. There is research showing that books in a series are excellent for building lifelong readers. Not only do I need for my students to understand what they are reading, but to enjoy reading. All these books will help my students achieve that goal. Each new book they open will be like a Christmas present they are unwrapping. My students will feel so privileged having new books in their classroom library.
