This will be my third year as a public school teacher in the NYC Department of Education. The last two years, I have been a special education teacher in a 2nd grade co-teaching collaborative class. I have worked with students who have mild to severe learning disabilities and language impairments. My main goal with these students was to work in small group and one-on-one during instruction. By doing this, I was able to closely monitor their academics in order to differentiate and accommodate class activities. This year, I will be transitioning to a 2nd grade self-contained classroom (12:1:1). I will have 12 students who are emotionally disturbed and will require closer attention because of their behavior. I am looking forward to learning new concepts of behavior management and new ways to accommodate these students when they go through crisis.
