My students are just beginning their second language study at the most interesting and most awkward time of their lives: Middle School. Since this is their initial exposure to language learning, they are very eager and enthusiastic, yet shy and hesitant. Studies have shown when you are comfortable in your surroundings, and relax, learning happens more naturally and easily. Comfortable seating is not only more natural and relaxing, but it will also simulate real life speaking experiences as the likelihood of my students ever speaking in French at a desk after leaving my class is very minimal. Being seated at a café or in someone’s home, in a comfortable chair at that, is more likely. And for those not wanting to be stared at or to speak in front of the entire class, voilà! The privacy tent! Learning a second language is hard, let's make it more comfortable!
