Flexible seating, or alternative seating, is a way teachers can set up their classroom for students be choose where they sit and how they learn daily. This type of approach lets students sit at the conventional table if they choose, but also gives them the option to sit in more comfortable positions while they work. This type of seating has been proven to assist with classroom management, improved grades, engagement, and a positive classroom environment. Giving students a choice while helping them be more comfortable while they work is what I am thriving towards this year. With the listed materials I would be able to create a classroom where my students are more aware of their learning, the learning of others, and learn how to use problem solving skills daily. The yoga mats and lap trays would let students sit comfortably on the floor while still being able to use the lap tray to work for easy access. The Stay-N-Play Balance Ball would allow students to move and bounce during learning without disturbing the students around them. The stools would give students a higher place to sit while at a table. When the Bouncy Bands are added to the legs of the chairs, children can kick with the resistance of the bands. The Wobble cushions would be on chairs so children can sit at a table but still be able to move with the cushion helping them focus their minds on their work and not on wanting to move. I believe with these options students will be able to move their bodies while focusing their minds on their learning. Giving them the opportunity to choose their mode of learning will also give them problem solving skills and a sense of independence.
