Kindergarteners thrive on voice and choice! After dabbling into flexible seating for my classroom last year, I immediately saw the amazing outcome it provided my students. My kindergarteners LOVED the ability to pick a learning environment that helped them achieve their very best. I would love to expand my flexible seating options even more this year to give my kiddos the best learning experience possible. A big part of our day is devoted to our daily 5 literacy centers. For this hour and a half time slot my kids are scattered around my room working through different centers which include writing, reading, word work, and reading groups. I have learned that not all kids succeed in the typical desk and chair setup. With the new flexible seats found around the room, my kiddos can pick a way to work that will help them focus and do amazing work. At this age my kids love to learn and best become engaged while moving their bodies. The bounce balls and wiggle spots will give my kids a chance to keep their body moving while completing center work around the room. Kids will be able to do the reading centers comfortably on the bean bag chairs and move silently on the scooter boards. For my kiddos that do love to sit in the typical chair, I can put the bands on the legs to give them a little movement while they sit. It really is all about finding the perfect choice for them and setting them up for success. My new seating options will provide them a chance to stay engaged as they work throughout their long day! By creating an alternate seating classroom for these 21st century learners I am hoping to make OUR classroom one of voice, choice, and success.
