These materials will help my students with disabilities to relax and calm down when they experience meltdowns, agitation or irritability. Sensory and fidgety toys help with visual and tactile stimulation. Comfortable carpet and pillows help my students to feel safe and at home, necessary when behaviors escalate. Wobble chairs aid in balance and concentration which will improve focus and aid in deescalation. Sensory items are fundamental in the learning environment for students with special needs and can promote learning. Colors like purple, blue and green are conducive to relaxation for students with special needs. I am hoping to make my class feel like home.
