Our vibrant, passionate scholars need various ways to express themselves. Having art supplies, fidget items, and hands-on materials will give our scholars opportunities to demonstrate their understanding of content through art. Through the addition of fidget items, our scholars are more likely to engage in their learning as they have ways to sustain attention to task. They may paint the character throughout the novel or perhaps they will build a Joseph Cornell box. Further, our scholars may use the materials to express their feelings, desires, and/or aspirations. We want out scholars to feel their voices are integral to not only their development, but to our school community. Empathy and critical thinking are two focus areas for our scholars throughout the year. Through hands-on activities, scholars will become active participants in their educational experience. Students will be able to bring characters to life by depicting their interpretation of the literature visually. In addition, students will be able to replicate settings, physical characteristics, and plot through the use of the materials listed for this project. Lastly, our scholars will benefit from the multi-modal approach to learning, which includes social-emotional development and expression.
