The first 15 to 20 minutes of the day often sets a child's tone and mood for the day. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Many times (because of circumstances they cannot control) they come to school frustrated, upset, and tired. Our classroom's "It's a Great Morning" activities will give my students creative and engaging activities to start their day. These activities will also promote collaboration with peers they don't normally associate with. This will also give me an opportunity to develop relationships with my kids and have positive experiences with them outside of academic teaching. Students will enjoy working as a team to build with K'NEX sets, putting a puzzle together with a friend, or trying to solve a Rubik's cube faster than a classmate.
