Having flexible seating in my classroom, will allow for my students to be responsible for their own learning, and engaged and focused in their learning. When students feel comfortable and have made their own choice in where to sit, they are more motivated to learn. I would like to give students the choice of where to sit. Anywhere from sitting to standing, to using a wobble seat, to a comfy pillow for independent, peer work, or small group work. We need additional flexible seating so that all of my students can have choices. Currently, in my classroom, I have wobble stools at my table. Students sit there during peer or group work. To stay engaged in their work, students move in a circular motion if they need a controlled movement while working. At my rug area, I have pillows and camp chairs for students to sit in while reading. So many students are in need of movement in order to get out some energy and to keep their focus to be able to learn. I would like to provide them with more options of flexible seating to keep them engaged in their learning.
