Science in third grade is very exciting and I love sharing it with my students! We investigate weather patterns and air quality, track monarchs all year long, study animal adaptations and create impact projects to help native bees in our schoolyard habitat. Young students are naturally curious about where these events and phenomenon are happening and what better way for them to locate and remember, than moving their whole bodies on a map! With this large map carpet, students will find the states, areas, oceans, routes and locations of our focused science content and will incorporate mapping skills. I will challenge students to track the path of storms on the coasts and the monarch migration routes, to name states that native animals inhabit and to find areas of the US, like New England. Rather than using maps on a wall, geography will be learned and internalized in an active, fun and meaningful way all year long!
