Having a Dash and Dot Robotics Kit in our classroom will allow the students to put their newly acquired coding skills to a practical and physical use. These robots allow us to help students become excited about STEM subjects while working on the 21st Century skill of coding. Students will see their codes go into action while making the robot move, sing, and dance. By linking the robots to an app on our iPads, students will be able to see how coding is used outside of web-based programs. Students will also gain experience with the design process as they will need to rewrite their codes to make the robots perform tasks more effectively. Additionally, the robotics kit will encourage classroom collaboration and team work. Most jobs in the 21 Century job market require collaboration on some level and the more practice my students can have at a younger age, the more prepared they will be for the future. This grant will help my students become better prepared for their futures and open their eyes to new and exciting STEM subjects.
