Students in the 21st are over stimulated with technology and constant on the go movement through the various extracurricular things that they are involved in. When they come into the classroom and are expected to remain seated in a traditional seat for 7 hours a day, this can pose a lot of issues when it comes to maintaining focus in their academic coursework. After much research on the option of flexible seating, I have decided that it is time to make the change and allow my students to have choices in their seating style that will help them to remain focused and in tune with the lessons that are being taught. The items that have been selected were chosen with careful consideration as to the needs of my classroom. Having a carpeted area where students can work with clipboards or hard writing mats will allow for students to be able to spread out and work without being cramped for space, while having a learning tool through it being a map of the United States. The bean bag chairs will allow for students with sensory issues to be able to sit in comfort without overstimulation on the hard surfaces of the traditional chair. The foam tiles will provide another space for students to be able to sit and spread out in comfort while being on a cushioned surface as opposed to the hard tile floor. These products will give students the ability to be more flexible with their learning and be able to be more engaged with the class as opposed to searching for comfort in their seating arrangements.
