I am working with students grade 2-5 at my elementary school. I will be seeing small groups throughout the day, serving all the 2-5 classrooms on campus. I will mainly be doing reading intervention this year with students that are behind 1-2 grade levels in reading. These students are at risk because many do not qualify for special education, and this is the only intervention that they will receive to get them back on track. Studies show that students who are more that 1 grade level behind in reading by the end of second grade are at higher risk for dropping out and usually do not catch up. I would love to set up an environment to help these kiddos become successful readers so we can stop this cycle and send them back into their regular classrooms more confident and more able to access grade level in other areas.
