Teaching students strategies for managing stress, anxiety and everyday pressures is essential to academic success and overall wellness. Greenbelt Elementary School is a learning community full of talented, curious and dedicated scholars. For the upcoming school year, an additional focus will be on teaching students about mindsets, beliefs about themselves as learners and strategies to support social/emotional growth. We would like to create a 'Mindfulness Room'. This calm, inviting space will be a place of peace, where students can come for reflection and encouragement. The goal is to stock it with the items necessary to support students in practical ways. The materials requested are items that students can use independently to begin to develop mindful practices when they feel overwhelmed, anxious or just in need of re-centering. This items will allow students to engage in breathing exercises, basic yoga stretches, coloring or simply listen to the relaxing sound of a waterfall. Each item was carefully chosen to ensure that it can be utilized by a young student on their own, with minimal adult prompting.
