My students need flexible seating, including four Gaiam Balance Cushions, eight Gaiam Stay-N-Play Balance Balls and thirty clipboards, which will allow all to be successful learners. I am a firm believer that everyone can achieve, they just have to be given any pathway needed. Teaching Kindergarten is such a rewarding and fulfilling experience. One of the challenges, however, is the struggle for these young, energetic people to sit still and perform their work. Flexible seating is a cutting edge approach to this issue in classrooms. This past year I had the honor of watching kids in both first grade and fourth grade that had flexible seating available to them. What I saw was amazing. The children who struggled with sitting, were able to move and wiggle while sitting and completing their work, and the children worked cooperatively. By being able to change seats, over 90% of students were able to listen, focus and complete tasks. Although it may look odd to an untrained eye, students are able to relax and work produce quality work all while easing anxiety and pressure.
